Digital Dimension allies with UK studio Windfall Films on the production of the series MACHINES:  HOW THEY WORK

A ten episode documentary series, MACHINES:  HOW THEY WORK dissects the tools and objects we come across in our day-to-day life. Bit by bit the show’s technical team picks apart all the hidden genius of these everyday tools from the hand-mixer to the escalator to the chainsaw. The challenge faced by Digital Dimension came in the form of the creation of 60 individual objects and all their inner workings down to the last screw in order to generate the 160 plans needed by the series, and all this in the short time frame of seven months. However, Digital Dimension’s team of artists was swimming in known waters on this project.

After the series Rise of the Machines, Strip the Cosmos, or even Strip the City, the project was the latest in a long list of collaborations between the Digital Dimension and Windfall Films teams. “On MACHINES:  HOW THEY WORK we used cutting edge technology such as Substance and Redshift that gave us greater efficiency. Thanks to our higher-quality render, we delivered a superior quality product to the client than they were expecting, which was a pleasant surprise for them.” states CG Supervisor François Beaudry. “The close collaborative nature of our relationship with the client really helped at every stage of the production. The client twice came from London to spend time in our studios, at the heart of the production, in order to work alongside our artists.” concludes François Beaudry.

MACHINES:  HOW THEY WORK launched on the Science Channel on 28 January. Watch more fascinating episodes every Thursday at 10pm.
