Digital Dimension in the heart of the action for the shattering finale of QUANTICO.

Quantico’s inaugural season came to a dramatic close on Sunday, May 15th, de-masking the perpetrators of a series of terrorist attacks while promising an equally spellbinding second season. No less satisfying to a small visual effects team in Montreal, was the delivery of Digital Dimension’s 585th and final visual effects shot on May 10th, concluding an eight-month marathon which kicked off in September, 2015.

From the outset, Digital Dimension visual effects supervisor Gunnar Hansen (Captain AMERICA: Winter Soldier, The Grey, Quantum Of Solace) was present on set to oversee all visual effects photography. “With the incredibly tight deadlines we were given on Quantico, it was essential to entrust set supervision to a seasoned supervisor. Gunnar not only won over the production crew, he quickly became instrumental in bridging the gap between production and shot creation,” said Nadja Leblanc, project manager at Digital Dimension.

The studio’s initial mandate would span 11 episodes. However, with ABC’s decision to stretch the season from 13 to 22 episodes, Digital Dimension found itself embarking on a long haul. “We were confronted with a number of challenges out of the gate considering that shot volume could vary greatly from episode to episode, while deadlines would not” joked Peter Skovsbo, senior producer at Digital Dimension. “To make things interesting, volume and complexity also augmented as the season progressed. Whereas we initially focused on compositing work, later episodes saw us generating everything from FX simulations to CG cityscapes, set extensions to hard body animations. Thankfully, ABC were great to collaborate with.”

The first season of Quantico tells the parallel journeys of young FBI recruits at the Bureau’s special training facility in Quantico, Virginia, as well as their involvement several years later in the largest terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11.
