Project:

The Lead Environment Artist will join the environment team for the production of an action packed, high-end 3D animated TV series, intended for a mature audience.  Directed by an A list Director, the project partly carried out in motion capture, aims to be realistic while adopting a stylized aesthetic and very graphic textures, and is entirely rendered with the Unreal game engine.

 

Your role:

Working closely with the CG Supervisor, the Lead Environment Artist is the vector of the artistic vision of the project with a full team of environmental artists.

With his team, he designs and produces the visual material and ensures effective communication of the universe and the environmental atmosphere in accordance with the project’s artistic direction:

  • Supervise the activities of the team of Environmental Artists;
  • Assigns the tasks to be done to the different artists of his team, taking into account each person’s strengths and weaknesses;
  • Guide each member of his team through the different stages of production by giving clear directives;
  • Offers creative and technical feedback and examines the work of artists;
  • Informs his team of all changes and news relating to projects;
  • Corrects, when necessary, according to comments and requests from the supervisor and presents solutions or questions to creative or technical problems;
  • Ensure compliance with the production schedule;
  • Creates and documents methods, structures and work processes;
  • Explore new techniques and tools that improve quality and efficiency;
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings with the Art Direction and the Producer working on the project;
  • Collaborates with the other leads of the production team, particularly with the leads of Layout, Lighting and Unreal;
  • Inspire and encourage collaboration and good team dynamics.

 

Your experience and qualifications :

  • Diploma in a 3D animation program;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills;
  • Good knowledge of Zbrush, Unreal, Photoshop, Speedtree, Substance Painter/Designer, Shotgun;
  • Experience in the creation of quality digital environments;
  • Solid 3D modeling, texturing, UV unfolding, lookdev, optimization and lighting techniques for different environments;
  • Good knowledge of the modeling component of Autodesk Maya software;
  • Good knowledge or Marvelous is AN ASSET;
  • Experience in preparing and projecting matte-painting is AN ASSET;
  • A good knowledge of UNREAL is a REAL ASSET;
  • Excellent team player, proactive and conscientious, showing great solidarity with his collaborators;
  • Passionate about decors / environments and attention to detail;
  • Passionate about 3D animation or video games.
