After “Mune, The Moon Guardian”, “Astérix : le domaine des Dieux”, “The Little Prince” and “Captain Underpants”, Mikros Image Canada is now working on “Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero” a new animation film in collaboration with Fun Academy. 

Job Description:

The Lead Layout Artist build the foundation of a shot, pulling together the various objects to compose the CG scene across a variety of styles and projects, create high quality staging, as well as provide direction and leadership to Layout Artists working within the project.



• Create sequences that convey the story through traditional camera principles in a stereoscopic environment;

• Based on the storyboards, establish shot composition, and basic character blocking;

• Understand and establish how camera enhances and serves the story at a specific point in the film;

• Deliver assignments based on the established quotas and as per the schedule;

• Work with the animation and asset build departments to fix any technical issues

• Maintaining consistent quality, style and continuity, both visually and technically throughout the project;

• Set tasks for the team;

• Review and feedback on the work of the layout team working on the project;

• Quality controlling output on the project;

Qualifications : 

• College diploma in 3D graphic arts/3D animation;

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Layout artist ideally in animation;

• Excellent Maya skills and a strong knowledge of the principles of cinematic staging, blocking and camera work;

• Previous experience as a Lead layout or senior Layout artist is required;

• Strong background in feature CG character animation a plus;

• Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues in order to maintain continuity within the sequence;

• Thorough understanding of the feature animation pipeline from modeling through rigging, animation and rendering;

• A working knowledge of stereoscopic cameras and shot-to-shot depth continuity;

• Ability to work interactively with production and other departments to solve production challenges;

• Ability to work within an established pipeline and learn to use custom tools;

• Ability to work well in a team and solve shot specific issues independently;

• Ability to project requirements and work within a deadline;

• Good communication skills;

• Ability to manage small team;

• French-English Bilingual;

• Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec.
