
Lighting and Compositing Artist – TV
Under general supervision of the Lighting Supervisor this position is responsible for creating and fine-tuning real-time lighting and shadows for assigned shots, color correction, rendering, and some compositing to create the final image.
● Light production shots as required by lighting quota and Supervisor and perform technical work in support of shot lighting using Unreal Engine and a variety of tools.
● Partner with Director, Cinematographer, Lead Lighter and other staff in order to understand mood, time of day and color of the composition.
● Follow the creative direction of the production from a lighting standpoint as communicated by the Supervisor.
● Identify to the Supervisor problems that lighting could potentially present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules.
● Performing in-engine lighting and post-processing adjustments, including overall look and feel, color correction, post-process effects, and other compositing effects as needed.
● Maintain high quality and productivity throughout projects.
● Ensure consistent look between shots.
● Remain current and up-to-date in lighting and cutting edge real-time lighting and rendering techniques.
● Bachelor’s (BA) degree or university or equivalent experience
● Thorough knowledge of high-end 3D software, Unreal Engine or Maya
● Thorough knowledge of high-quality lighting in Unreal Engine, or in other high-end rendering software
● Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Lighting Artist
● Strong demonstration of composition, lighting, and color
● Knowledge of Blueprinting in Unreal Engine, or node-based compositing software an asset
● Knowledge of cutting-edge real-time lighting techniques an asset
● Hunger to learn and strengthen new workflows and tools
● Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
● Being a creative and collaborative problem solver who is organized and critical of his or her own work
● Demonstrable ability to multi-task and prioritize
● Able to thrive in a high pressure, deadline-oriented environment
