YOUR ROLE

The Technical Artist is essential to ensure that the technology, tools and processes are in place to realize the artistic vision of a project. He or she works with the creative team to explain the capabilities and limitations of the technology, as well as with the technical team to highlight the artists’ needs and find multiple solutions to technological problems.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a resource person for team members to determine the technical impact of the artistic vision;
  • Simplify production by finding ways to automate tasks and improve processes;
  • Develop a set of best practices, solutions and tools to solve problems;
  • Promote the reuse of resources, know-how and tools across multiple projects;
  • Ensure that the team has the technical expertise to carry out the work required in the project;
  • Keep up to date and constantly seek to push back the limits of technology;
  • Establish strong communication between creative and technical teams;
  • Find innovative solutions and demonstrate expertise in technical optimization to produce the best possible visual results within the limits of technological equipment;
  • Understand rendering steps and methods to assess impact on performance.

YOU HAVE

  • A degree or relevant professional experience in the video game industry as a technical artist or in a similar or related position;
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience with Unreal;
  • Technical knowledge of real-time 3D graphics and digital content creation techniques;
  • Knowledge of pre-calculated and real-time lighting;
  • Experience in creating and deploying production and automation processes;
  • Experience with commercial 3D tools (Maya, Houdini, Substance);
  • Experience with Blueprint creation and a good understanding of scripting and programming (Python, C++, Mel, HLSL an asset);
  • Experience in the video game or animation industry an asset;
  • Mocap knowledge/experience an asset.
