Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Modeling Lead, this position is responsible for world building and look development of environments in Unreal Engine including environment blocking, assembly, and look development.

Responsibilities

• Create and build unique stylized worlds and environments in Unreal Engine for exciting narrative projects
• Assemble scenes, and create models as necessary, with a focus on layout and look development of environments in Unreal Engine
• Work with the Director, Production Designer, and key departments in order to understand and execute on the environment layout, look and feel
• Work with the modeling team to create proxy sets by blocking out and defining the cinematic landscape for the Layout department
• Collaborate closely with Modeling and Surfacing team
• Optimize environments for real-time production while maintaining the highest cinematic quality
• Identify problems that environments could present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules
• Create preliminary lighting for environments
• Maintain high quality and productivity throughout projects
• Ensure consistent look of environments across the show
• Remain current and up-to-date in Unreal Engine and real-time world building

Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in games creating environments or related experience/software
• Degree/diploma in video games, film, fine arts or equivalent experience
• Thorough knowledge of high-quality environment and world building in Unreal Engine
• Thorough experience using high-end 3D software such as Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, or similar software packages
• Strong knowledge of geography, architecture and world building
• Strong understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette
• Understanding of lighting and visual language
• Strong technical ability to manage assets to fit real-time constraints
• Strong technical ability to use landscape and foliage tools in Unreal Engine
• Good ability to use and develop custom materials in Unreal Engine
• Working knowledge of procedural modeling in Houdini a plus
• Great organization and communication skills and ability to prioritize and execute on a given schedule
• Hunger to learn and strengthen new workflows and tools
• Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
• A creative and collaborative problem solver who is organized and critical of his or her own work
• Enjoy working in teams
• Self-motivated, and able to follow directions well
