About the position
Squeeze is looking for a Hard Surface and Environment Modeling Lead to join its team and embark on exciting projects of international scope. Squeeze Animation Studios, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, located in Montreal and Quebec, is a high-level 3D animation company working with the biggest entertainment companies in the world, in cinema, video games, TV and in immersive installations. The Hard Surface and Environment Modeling Lead will be the driving force for a diverse team of modelers. The candidate must have the ability to inspire and motivate the team using their skills and experience. The ideal candidate should have a passion for modeling and a desire to be challenged on a wide variety of projects.


  • Works closely with the Modeling, CG, and VFX Supervisor to ensure models meet project standards and art direction.

  • Works closely with the Modeling Supervisor and the production staff to ensure timely delivery of models.

  • Determine the best possible techniques and creative approaches for creating outstanding models

  • Critique of artist models ensuring they meet the required aesthetics of the project

  • Quality control for hard surface and environment models. Checks to make sure models meet baseline technical standards before they are passed downstream in the pipeline

  • Help document and define workflows and standards

  • Provide feedback and mentoring to junior artists


  • 5-7+ years experience in modeling

  • Previous experience in a lead role or leading a team of artists

  • A portfolio demonstrating expert knowledge of hard surface modeling and/or environment modeling

  • Expert knowledge of Maya and, Zbrush,

  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to critically evaluate other artists’ work

  • Team leadership and supervision skills

  • The ability to work on a wide variety of model styles, ranging from extremely stylized to hyper realistic

  • Knowledge of Unreal a plus

  • Knowledge of other software such as Houdini, Mari, and Substance Painter/Designer
    a plus

  • Knowledge of Speed Tree or other procedural software a plus.
