Junior Visual Development Designer (Character)

The Junior Visual Development Designer (Character) helps the Character Designer execute the details of the film’s main and secondary characters, taking into account any styles, directions, and guidance set down by the Character Designer, Production Designer and Art Director. The Junior Visual Development Designer (Character) helps define the details of characters which can be modeled in 3D, and which serve the goals of the production’s story.

• Create engaging and performable characters for the generic system that fit into the existing design language.
• For a generic system, design characters which hit the quality level, and vision of the Production Designer, and the goals of the production that convey action, attitude and emotion.
• Draw/paint hand, foot and teeth orthos.
• Draw/paint facial expressions.
• Draw/paint body poses.
• Help create comprehensive character model packs for asset departments.
• Bring new ideas and creative solutions for the visual and technical aspects.

• Degree/diploma in Fine Art, Architectural/Industrial Design, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Experience interfacing with designers, artists, and programmers.
• Experience in 3D design and modeling, an asset.
• Must have strong 2D character and creature design experience.
• Extensive experience with Photoshop.
• A strong understanding of design and the challenges in creating compelling 3D characters.
• An understanding of cinematic techniques.
• Drawing skills and an understanding of staging and compositing.
• A passion for creating a unique world and characters.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proven abilities in managing projects from concept to completion.
