Cinesite Montreal is seeking a Lead Modeller to join our VFX team. The ideal candidate should be motivated and well-organized, with the desire to work within a fast-paced team of highly-skilled and experienced artists. 

The Role: 

  • Work closely with the CG Supervisor to establish the modelling pipeline for the show.
  • Lead a team of Modelers to assure the work meets a high-quality standard and is delivered on time.
  • Liaise on a regular basis with the show supervisor and producer regarding the allocation of work on an assigned feature film.
  • Create accurate digital assets from the supplied reference material and/or concept artwork.
  • Apply and adjust UVs, working closely with texture artists to ensure UVs are positioned and scaled efficiently.
  • Give direction and technical guidance to modelling team to maintain the required standard of work.
  • Find creative solutions by drawing on your own talents and those of your team.
  • Assist in shot allocation/assignment.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the modelling team to enable them to move forward with their work.
  • Work with animators and riggers to resolve technical issues and optimise assets for animation and liaise with Lighting TDs to ensure assets are optimized for render.
  • Provide CG Supervisor and Producers with progress reports on an “as needed” basis.

We’d like to talk to you if you have the following:

  • Thorough understanding of the modelling process and the ability to both interpret designs and accurately match photographic reference material.
  • Excellent Maya polygon and subdivision surface modelling skills and the ability to apply and manage UVs.
  • Previous experience creating photorealistic organic and hard surface digital models.
  • Good understanding of the visual effects pipeline from modelling through animation, texturing, and rendering.
  • Ability to work well in a team and solve asset specific issues independently.
  • Experience leading and training others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An organized and methodical approach to your work.
  • Proactive nature with the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Previous experience leading a team is an asset
  • Ability to motivate yourself and your colleagues in a high-pressure environment.
