About the position
Squeeze is looking for a Texture/Shading Supervisor who will be responsible for developing the pipeline, implementing workflows within the department and using their knowledge to improve the department. With its expertise, the lead will inspire and guide the texture/shading artists while leading them to grow. The lead will be responsible for the quality of the asset surfacing for various projects within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the texture/shading department;

  • Fully understand the requirements from the concepts and create textures true to the approved art and direction;

  • Create and modify textures following the creative direction of the production;

  • Be proactive and report technical issues and potential problems to supervisors and pipeline teams in a timely manner;

  • Develop the department vision in collaboration with the team and the CG supervisors;

  • Participate in the improvement of the surfacing pipeline;

  • Work effectively in a variety of visual styles while respecting technical, budgetary and time constraints;

  • Mentor and coach the artists in the department, helping to develop each artist by giving challenges and goals;

  • Obtain the visual rendering desired by the CG supervisor when creating lighting passes.

  • Ensure continuity and consistency of assets in the various sequences of a project;

  • Communicate effectively with the team, CG Supervisor and Producer to ensure that deadlines are met;

  • Document the scripts, workflows and tools created and maintain the information on the Intranet;

  • Coordinate with the modeling department to ensure a smooth interdepartmental flow;

  • Perform technical and artistic reviews of the assets and ensure that they are working properly;

  • Support the team and participate in the creation of high quality assets;

  • Perform preliminary reviews of artist’s material, ensuring that basic client requirements are met, before submission to Vfx Sup;

  • Perform surfacing of more complex assets or help structure the task for the artist;

  • Provide training to the team for the needs of the project;

  • Ensure the pipeline is working properly by testing and following up with the pipeline team. Test the Build, Update and Publish for the assets;

  • Communicate directly with other teams for fixes, issues, workflows, etc.
