L’ATELIER ANIMATION is an animation studio created in 2012 that specializes in the creation of 3D feature films and visual effects.

Job description:

Under the supervision of the Line Producer and the CG Supervisor, the Texturing Supervisor is responsible for the direction and management of his department. The supervisor gives the necessary coaching and training to its team to reach its objectives. He is responsible for the entire process of textures, shading, grooming, Look Dev and UV’s until the end of production. The Texturing Supervisor brings his expertise to both the technical and artistic aspects of the project.

Responsibilities:

Management :

  • Develop, manage and maintain timing and production quotas in accordance with the coordination team;
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings with clients;
  • Assign, supervise and review the texturing team’s work;
  • Organize and conduct team meetings;
  • Inform the team about changes and news related to the project;
  • Train and supervise the team throughout production;
  • Give feedback to each artist about their performance;
  • Actively participate in the selection of new artists;
  • Support and facilitate the integration of new employees;
  • Attend and actively participate to supervisors meetings;
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management;

Production :

  • Before and during production, develop the department’s pipeline in collaboration with the R&D Director, the CG Supervisor and other department Supervisors;
  • Write the necessary documentation about the pipeline’s development;
  • Develop and improve procedures and tools to facilitate production;
  • Work closely with the Modeling/Rigging/Render/Animation Supervisors in order to ensure a good pipeline implementation of the hair & cloth work;
  • Prepare guidelines and instructions to be followed by the texturing team;
  • Anticipate, analyze and find solutions to potential and actual technical problems;
  • Develop and manage the texturing work process (nomenclature, references, resources needed, methodology, tools, schedules, work assignments, etc.);
  • Check the consistency of the work done by the texturing team;
  • Keep the documentation for the team and others supervisors updated;
  • Act as the main spokesperson during exchanges between departments;
  • Be available to answer questions from the team;

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or equivalent in 3D animation;
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of work experience as a Texturing Artist in a film production environment, animated TV series or visual effects;
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience as a Texturing Supervisor;
  • Strong knowledge of PHOTOSHOP, MAYA, MARI, UVLAYOUT, ARNOLD;
  • Knowledge of GUERILLA RENDER;
  • Good knowledge of 3D sculptures and UV mapping tools;
  • Be comfortable with LINUX/UNIX environment;
  • Interest for R&D;
  • Have an eye for detail, composition, colors, scales and forms;
  • Thorough understanding of techniques required for the interpretation of design and materials;
  • Familiar with matte digital projection techniques;
  • Knowledge of an asset manager such as Shotgun is a plus;
  • Ability to manage a team;
  • Ability to train and guide a team;
  • Bilingual (English and French);
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec;
