Cinesite is recruiting the Head of Technical Production (Feature Animation division) who will be responsable to develop and execute R&D and Pipeline strategy to ensure Cinesite maintains their competitive edge in the market. Oversee the tool and system development to enable artists to complete high quality work which Cinesite is known for and to enable them to meet their strategic goals. Supervise the efforts of R&D, Pipeline while liaising with the CG Sups, TDs, and the various production requirements to form an overall cohesive technical strategy for the studio and the feature animation division. Ensure the Montreal studio is aligned with Vancouver and London studios with regards to R&D and Pipeline global strategy.

The role:

Production

  • Maintain a consensus vision for the way we do things (workflows, tools, pipeline) at Cinesite Montreal for Feature Animation division as well as within the Group (Montreal, Vancouver, London, VFX and Feature Animation)
  • Communicate with and liaise between productions and tech departments on high-level technical issues as often as possible as to avoid bottlenecks and/or frustration build-up
  • Assess new feature requests and prioritize tasks for developers and stakeholders
  • Review existing tools and workflows with leads and artists, identifying time wasters, potential points of pain and areas where improvements are in need
  • Keep up to date with the latest tools and techniques in the VFX and Feature Animation industry
  • Oversees the evaluation of 3rd party solutions when/if required
  • Help decide between internal development and 3rd party solutions on a case by case basis to enhance our capabilities
  • Oversees efforts to maintain internal documentation of tools and workflows
  • Communicate upcoming changes to all departments and ensure critical updates are sufficiently tested to minimize impact to production
  • Project Manage all these various tasks in a relative transparent manner

Management:

  • Collaborate with management and production teams to ensure Cinesite is successfully executing feature animation projects
  • Consult on IT initiatives, ensuring the procurement of the right software and tools to meet Cinesite feature animation’s needs
  • Consult on strategic plans and goals for the studio as well as global ones

Communication:

  • Support and promote Cinesite policies and procedures
  • Provide leadership to the R&D and Pipeline Team of the Feature Animation division
  • Help promote Cinesite’s work, company values, mission statement and vision to clients, colleagues, employees, and industry professionals
  • Liaise with Heads of Technical Production in London and Vancouver, VFX and Feature Animation divisions
  • We’d like to talk to you if you have the following:
  • 7+ years’ experience in a senior VFX and/or Feature Animation position, preferably as a CG Supervisor, Head of 3D, Head of Pipeline, Head of R&D or similar
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, technology, Animation, Arts or equivalent experience
  • Experience leading large teams, communicating well and forming consensus based on decisions amongst a mix of technical and non-technical users
  • Experience within a multisite company
  • A passion for Feature Animation tools, techniques, technology and efficiency
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to coach, direct and lead a team
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities while meeting client or organizational requirements
  • Effective decision making capability
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication (English) and time management skills
