Summary:

The Department Manager is responsible for the staffing requirements and resource management of the Animation Division. The Department Manager reports to the Head of Production and partners with HR/Talent Acquisition, Animation Department Supervisors and Production in developing and maintaining processes, policies and procedures, to maximize efficiency and quality across all projects. In addition, this position will drive the department’s long term growth and development plans, including production efficiencies, career paths, reviews, growth, and retention of talent.

Duties:

  • Manage resources and staffing through schedules that incorporate input from HR/Talent Acquisition and Production
  • Define continuous measurement methods to evaluate and maintain the efficiency of the Production Team’s processes
  • Establish and continue to grow and optimize Reel FX training and development activities to result in positive employee experience and to promote higher employee retention
  • Work with the Production team to establish and maintain a master schedule and standardized department schedules for each project
  • Work closely, on a daily basis, with Head of Production to insure each project has the necessary needs
  • Work with the team to shuffle resources in order to maximize efficiency and provide for all productions
  • Assist and train leadership in assembling review data and conducting performance reviews
  • Direct managers and teams leaders to facilitate individual artist growth
  • Ensure positive experience for freelancers
  • Establish relationships with Directors, Supervisors, Artists, Producers and Technical team members
  • Report and create specific documents and analysis for production management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (BA) degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with managing and leading teams in a Feature Film production facility or equivalent experience
  • Requires experience in a Production and/or Management position
  • Expert in MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of scheduling software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual (French-English) required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative
  • Ability to inspire and encourage a team
  • Creative thinker and proactive problem solver
  • Interest and ability to mentor others
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • A positive, “can do” attitude
