MPC, the visual effects division of Technicolor, has kicked off the year in Montreal with a host of nominations for their feature film VFX work

MPC Montreal has particular reason to celebrate this award season as they were the lead studio on X-Men: Days of Future Past (photo), which has just been nominated for an Academy, BAFTA and VES award. The show was the very first project delivered by the studio, which was opened in Autumn 2013.

MPC Montreal’s Production VFX Supervisor Richard Stammers (Prometheus, Robin Hood) received an Oscar nomination for the team’s work on X-Men: Days of Future Past (photo). Together with MPC Montreal’s VFX Supervisor Anders Langlands, they are nominated at this year’s BAFTAs. And the Visual Effects Society (VES) has nominated them both in the “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture” category as well.

“We are so proud of the talented team we have here at MPC Montreal. This has been an incredible time of growth for our industry and for our team and I am thrilled that our work is being honoured,” says Emilie Dussault, General Manager of MPC Montreal.

MPC’s work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has also be nominated several times with MPC London’s VFX Supervisor Nicolas Aithadi (Harry Potter, 10,000BC) nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA and VES award.

Additionally, the Academy announced that Ben Cole, head of MPC’s Canadian software team, will be recognised with a Sci-Tech award for the team’s work on their ground-breaking destruction software tool, Kali, which has been used in movies including Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Prometheus and Godzilla.

MPC has been nominated for two additional VES Awards. MPC London’s VFX Supervisor Adam Valdez is nominated for Disney’s Maleficent in the “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture” category. And MPC Vancouver’s VFX Supervisor David Seager is nominated for the teams’ work on Game of Thrones: The Watchers on The Wall (S4e9) in the “Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program” category.
