L’Atelier Animation is an animation studio created in 2012. L’Atelier Animation specializes in the creation of 3D feature films.

 

Job description:

The CG Supervisor works closely with the VFX Supervisor to oversee every aspect of production for an animated feature film. Under the supervision of the Production Manager, he brings expertise to both the technical and artistic aspects of the project while working in collaboration with the various department supervisors. The standard of quality is established during his exchanges with the Director and production staff. He must therefore understand and interpret the Director’s intentions and also be conscious of the project’s budget constraints set by the production team.

 

Responsibilities:

 

PROJECT ANALYSIS:

  • Assist the Production Manager and VFX Supervisor with project proposals;
  • Work closely with the VFX Supervisor and department supervisors to plan the production based on the budget constraints;
  • Find relevant information and references to prepare the workload;
  • Establish the project’s quality based on the allotted budget;
  • Evaluate the technical requirements for the project and the production pipeline; find and propose solutions that are in concordance with the R&D Director, Production Coordinators and the department Supervisors;

 

MANAGEMENT:

  • Recruit candidates for key positions in collaboration with the production team;
  • Provide assistance with the recruitment of 3D Artists to ensure the proper level of skill and experience required for the project;
  • Prepare the production guidelines and instructions for the Supervisors;
  • Give clear instructions to each department and set objectives while monitoring the production process, progress and results;
  • Attend and/or organize and lead production meetings;
  • Inform the Supervisors on changes and news regarding the projects;
  • Be available to answer questions from the production team;
  • Eliminate potential problems with pipeline tools before they affect production;
  • Assist and participate in client meetings;

 

PRODUCTION:

  • During production: develop the production pipeline in collaboration with the R&D Director, VFX Supervisor and Supervisors of each department;
  • Edit the documentation required for the development of the pipeline;
  • Keep the documentation intended for the production team and supervisors up to date;
  • Develop and provide improvements for procedures and tools to maintain an efficient workflow;
  • Remain attentive to the new technologies available in the in industry and the various production techniques
  • Remain attentive to emerging technologies and production techniques in the industry and determine how to apply these advances to the current project in order to improve production;

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years of work experience as a supervisor in a film production environment, animated TV series or visual effects;
  • Extensive knowledge of MAYA;
  • Thorough understanding of the various technical and creative aspects of production for CG animation;
  • Complete understanding of 3D production pipelines;
  • Comfortable with a LINUX/UNIX environment;
  • Experience working with the SHOTGUN asset manager;
  • Knowledge of NUKE is a plus;
  • Ability to work efficiently with various personalities and different work styles;
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks at a time while remaining efficient and mindful of strict deadlines in a high pressure environment;
  • Bilingual (English and French);
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec;
