L’Atelier Animation is an animation studio created in 2012 that specializes in the creation of 3D feature films and visual effects.
Job description:
The Technical Director – Character will be working under the supervision of the R&D Director and working closely with the others Technical Directors and the animation and rigging department. The work involves developing, deploying and maintaining assets to create main characters of a CG movie.
Responsibilities:
Management :
- Able to maintain deadlines and production quotas given by the production coordinator;
- Work with supervisors (CG, Animation, Modeling, Rigging);
- Maintain the monitoring system and communicate the work in progress;
- Attend R&D meetings and production meetings;
- Make the corrections requested by the R&D Director with an analytical mind;
- Complete tasks within the timeframe given by the production and R&D Director;
- Maintain a good team dynamics;
Development :
- Create production software and pipeline-related tools and solutions for animation rigging;
- Develop, deploy and support the configurations for the animation department;
- Integrate the required animation services in the pipeline (asset management, simulation render farm, revision control);
- Create interfaces and tools for assisting animation department;
- Work closely with the Rig TD for seamless rig interaction/integration with animation;
- Implement pipeline integration for animation related data and workflow;
- Train other TDs and artists on the simulation tools;
- Write the necessary documentation about developed tools and codes;
- Write PYTHON / MEL scripts required for rigs;
- Rigs reference and configuration;
- Perform peer code reviews for other TD;
- Use source code version control system to deploy code in production;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Computer Animation or equivalent work experience required;
- Minimum 2 years production experience, animation, feature film, games or equivalent experiences;
- Bilingual (French and English);
- Good artistic eye;
- Production level understanding of:
- Modelling, weighting and rigging to meet animation requirements;
- Muscle Rigging and simulation needs;
- Procedural and object-oriented programming languages.
- Simulation Farm and related services.
- Geometry / Curve caching concepts (alembic)
- Renderman renderer, plugins and shaders.
- Working experience on:
- LINUX / UNIX;
- MAYA (animation / rig / NCLOTH);
- MEL et PYTHON scripts;
- PyQT or PySide;
- Revision Control Systems:CVS, SVN, PERFORCE, GIT;
- Modular pipeline development;
- C / C++ (optional);
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec;
