MOKKO TALKS X-MEN IN CINEFEX

Mokko is featured in the latest issue of film industry magazine Cinefex. Joe Fordham’s article “Mutant Destiny” features an interview with our CG Supervisor explaining Mokko’s process in creating transformation FX in X-Men: Days of Future Past. We are pleased to be listed as one of the main vendors on the project and are extremely proud of the work we’ve done on the film.

An excerpt from the article can be read below. The magazine can be purchased here:

Mokko Studio added digital eye treatments, which enabled Lawrence to portray Mystique without contact lenses. “We had reference contact lenses that Jennifer did not wear,” said Mokko Studio CG Supervisor Laurent Taillefer. “We used that as a starting point, created several iterations and worked with Digital Domain on the transformations. We developed our own eye that we made anatomically correct, and we built a mutant eye, making parts more concave or convex.” To create Mystique’s eye performance, Mokko developed a model of Lawrence’s eyes – detailed with shading, translucency, and reflections based on high dynamic range images of on-set lighting – and tracked the actress’ eye motion; we added the other five percent when Richard asked for specific jitters or pupil dilations.”
